It's payback time
Dear MoveOn member,
Imagine if someone ran a political campaign where they paired images of their opponent with images of Osama bin Laden. It would be pretty disgusting, wouldn't it?
Well that's exactly what Saxby Chambliss did to decorated Vietnam veteran and triple amputee Max Cleland in 2002. Chambliss' campaign painted Cleland as un-American just because Cleland was one of the few courageous folks out there fighting the Bush administration.
Worst of all: It worked.
Now it's payback time. We can make things right this year for Max and every other American who was attacked for saying 'no' to George Bush. Together, we can retire Chambliss for good.
With 12 days to go, Jim Martin is in a statistical dead heat with Chambliss. We can beat Chambliss but we need to chip in right now to help get Martin the money he needs to get his message out. Can you chip in $25? Click below.
Chambliss ran an ad against Cleland saying, "As America faces terrorists and extremist dictators, Max Cleland runs television ads claiming he has the courage to lead." The ad paired images of Cleland and Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.
The implication was that Cleland, who has used a wheelchair for more than 30 years after Vietnam, was a coward and that Chambliss was the real patriot.
Since being elected to the Senate, Chambliss has been lock step with George W. Bush at every juncture.
Jim Martin has a real chance. But Chambliss is going to unload everything he's got on Martin. We need to set things right for Max Cleland and everybody who's been told they're un-American because they asked tough questions or said "no" to Bush.
Can you contribute to help Martin and a few other key candidates get over the top?
Thanks for all you do.
